Just curious as to those of you who use WordPress, do you use any plugins, widgets etc. specifically for SEO reasons?

I use All in One SEO Pack for page titles and keywords and I want to know what else is out there.

Recommendations please? Cheesy

Plugins I use for SEO:-

BM Keyword Link - Link keywords automatically
XML Sitemap Generator - Generate an XML Sitemap for Google Webmaster Tools that is updated each post made

That's it really Smiley

I suppose you could also do this using the existing wordpress functionality, but adding a custom field for keywords, which you'd display in the head. And of course if no such thing is available, you'd just show a default set of keywords.

I also use a breadcrumb navigation tool.  Great for SEO and usability.

Feedburner (though Rhys would disagree)

Related content plugins for better internal linking

Sometimes automatic tag generators that pick up tags from your content and suggest, rather than you think them up.

Awesome! Cheesy All In One SEO Pack handles keywords already. & I'm using Feedburner. I don't have a link to my RSS anywhere, though, so I'll get on that.

Could any of you recommend good, semi-recently updated related posts plugins?

I did say use feedburner! In fact that's exactly what I said. Somebody wanted to submit their feed to RSS directories, and was complaining that as the links were parsed through feedburner, he wasn't going to use it for his feed.

I was arguing that by using Feedburner you get more important things (such as stats & appearance & health metrics), more so than any crappy link from an RSS directory!

It's more work involved if you ever wanted to manage your own feed... So that's the main reason to I allow another site to manage it especially when you get more features straight out the box with it.

Well, not "more" work but you just need to add more plugins to get features if you're using Wordpress...

In case you've ever wanted to try managing your own feed:

My only worry about using feedburner is that I ever stop, all those people have to re-subscribe :/

I'm pretty much totally new to this, so what kind of benefits are derived by using third party options like Feedburner? I always figured a basic feed with the posts was all that was needed.

^ Me too. That's pretty much all I use it for though. I'm not too interested in which client people use to read my feed nor what time of day they read or which articles are most popular... My stats program (*heart* Mint) deals with all that Wink

I am subscribed to me, and Google Reader tells me that. Tongue

^ Yeah, you can check any feed with Google Reader.

I always thought people used Feedburner because if you changed sites, you wouldn't have to redirect people to a new feed.

I thought Google Reader only tracks people who subscribe through Google Reader, though.

It doesn't say that anywhere - it just says "Subscribers".

^ I use Google Webmaster Tools, and for subscriber stats it specifies a number of "Google subscribers". The number it gives is the same one that Google Reader gives... And it makes sense that Google would only be able to count the subscribers that use Google Reader.

Oh, really? Undecided Oh well, it seems like most people use Google Reader anyway... and I can't imagine that I have many more subscribers than the number it gives me. Ha!

Doesn't surprise me. Not sure of the exact science but I think Google Reader simply tells you who's subscribed through Google. Feedburner tells you who's opened your feed.

With both this & stats, it's important to look for trends, rather than raw numbers.

Yeah hundreds of people could be subscribing, but if only a couple of people are bothering to read...
